Step into Wyoming’s prehistoric and industrial past during the Sunrise Mine Guided Tour, a unique opportunity to explore both the Powars II Paleoindian Red Ochre Mine and the historic mining town of Sunrise. This special event offers visitors a rare chance to learn about one of North America’s most significant archaeological sites alongside the rich history of Wyoming’s iron mining industry.
Guests will enjoy approximately three hours of guided presentations and tours led by knowledgeable speakers who will share the story of the ancient red ochre mine, the people who used it thousands of years ago, and the development of Sunrise as a thriving company mining town.
Gates open at 11:00 AM, with guest speakers and guided tours beginning at 1:00 PM. Lunch will be available for purchase on-site.
Admission is $20 for adults ages 19 and older. Youth ages 18 and under are admitted free. Reservations are not required.
Proceeds benefit the Sunrise Historic and Prehistoric Preservation Society (SHAPPS), helping preserve and share the history of Sunrise and the surrounding region for future generations.
